FREE online training courses to develop yourself and your PAs.

Available from October 2020

We are delighted to announced that we have been allocated funds from Skills for Care to enable us to support Individual Employers and their Personal Assistants to have the appropriate training and information that they need.

We are aiming to run relaxed and friendly training courses for Individual Employers and Personal Assistants from October 2020. You will be able to join any course from the comfort of your home. The sessions will run from 10 – 12 noon or from 2pm – 4pm

All sessions will be run by an expert in the field via Zoom, which is an on-line video and audio-conferencing facility.  Further instructions on how to connect to each course will be sent after registration.  In some circumstances we may be able to loan a tablet to enable you to connect if you do not have the ability to do this on your phone, iPad, tablet or computer.

Employers Information Sessions – Rights and Responsibilities including Peer Support

  • Being a good employer
  • Conducting Reviews and Supervision with your PA
  • Keeping records
  • Health & safety
  • Employment law and checks
  • Training your employee
  • Support for you

PA Information sessions –peer support sessions

  • The session will aim to provide knowledge, experience, emotional, social, or practical help to each other.
  • Roles and responsibilities, duty of care and professional boundaries
  • Training available
  • Support for you

Autistic Spectrum Conditions

  • Triad of impairments
  • Supporting a person with Autism

Food Hygiene and basic nutrition

  • Food safety regulations
  • Safe food handling and storage
  • Basic nutrition

Safeguarding Adults

  • Local and National policies and procedures, raising a concern and signs/symptoms of abuse

Infection Control

  • Preventing the spread of infection in the home environment

Moving and Handling (theory Session only)

  • Understanding the principles of safe handling
  • Communication

Understanding and working with people living with a Learning Disability

  • Helping to reduce the stigma by making sure individuals are not isolated in social situations
  • Promoting wellbeing for those living with the condition
  • Identifying and building on skills and abilities the individual has

Dementia Awareness

  • Understanding what Dementia is
  • Communicating with someone living with Dementia
  • Understanding behaviour and dealing with problems
